Rowan’s Law: concussion safety

Swimmer registration requirements

The new Rowan’s Law provincial legislation came into effect on July 1, 2019. All sport organizations must require that athletes under 26 years of age, as well as the parent (for athletes under 18) confirm that they have reviewed the concussion awareness resources provided by the Government of Ontario.

Clubs must collect confirmation from each swimmer and their parent acknowledging that Rowan’s Law Awareness Resources have been reviewed prior to registering swimmers with Swim Ontario/Swimming Canada.

The law states that this is an annual requirement.

Government of Ontario Concussion Awareness Resource

Athlete and parent must carefully review the age-appropriate concussion resource as found at the Ontario government links provided below. Parents of younger swimmers are encouraged to review the information with their child.
