From posing as more sustainable than they really are, or \u201cgreenwashing,\u201d to keeping quiet about their environmental initiatives and impacts, also known as \u201cgreenhushing,\u201d a lack of transparency can undermine both the reputations and sustainability efforts of technology companies.<\/p>\n
Amr ElAlfy, Assistant Professor at University of Waterloo\u2019s School of Environment, Enterprise and Development, will explore these issues at the next Goodman Luncheon Speaker Series on Friday, March 21.<\/p>\n
His presentation, \u201cSustainability Disclosures and Scope 3 Emissions Practices: Greenwashing, Greenhushing, or Genuine Accountability? Evidence from the S&P 500,\u201d takes place from 12:30 to 2 p.m. in Sankey Chamber.<\/p>\n
ElAlfy\u2019s research interests include comprehensive sustainability reporting; environment, social and governance (ESG) reporting; and social media analytics and corporate sustainability. His work has been published in journals such as the Journal of Management and Sustainability<\/em>, the Journal of Applied Accounting Research<\/em> and the Journal of Finance & Investment. <\/em><\/p>\n He has a Bachelor of Commerce in Accounting and Finance from Ain Shams University in Cairo, Egypt; a master\u2019s in International Development Studies from Saint Mary\u2019s University in Halifax, N.S.; and a PhD in Sustainability Management at the University of Waterloo.<\/p>\n
