As a Black woman leader, Maame De-Heer has overcome many barriers in her path.<\/p>\n
Along the way, she says she\u2019s learned \u201cthe importance of stepping into leadership with confidence” \u2014 a message she plans to share at Brock’s next Women in Leadership event.<\/p>\n
The lecturer in Brock\u2019s Faculty of Applied Health Sciences specializes in equity and health and is committed to bridging the health gap for marginalized and underserved communities.<\/p>\n
\u201cRepresentation matters,\u201d De-Heer says. \u201cOur voices bring valuable perspectives.\u201d<\/p>\n
She encourages women \u201cto seek out leadership opportunities, advocate for themselves and create pathways for others.\u201d<\/p>\n
A first-generation Black immigrant from Ghana, De-Heer is the first woman in her family to earn a graduate degree. She holds a Master of Public Health in Social and Behavioural Health Sciences and a PhD in Public Health.<\/p>\n
Her talk, \u201cLeading with Purpose: The Power of Black Women in Leadership,\u201d will take place Thursday, March 6, from noon to 1 p.m. on Microsoft Teams.<\/p>\n
