{"id":99173,"date":"2025-02-07T10:56:45","date_gmt":"2025-02-07T15:56:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/?p=99173"},"modified":"2025-02-07T16:00:41","modified_gmt":"2025-02-07T21:00:41","slug":"applications-open-for-undergraduate-student-research-awards-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/2025\/02\/applications-open-for-undergraduate-student-research-awards-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Applications open for Undergraduate Student Research Awards"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Applications are being accepted for the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nserc-crsng.gc.ca\/students-etudiants\/ug-pc\/usra-brpc_eng.asp\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Undergraduate Student Research Awards (USRA)<\/a>, which support short-term research employment for undergraduate students.<\/p>\n<p>The program is supported by the Government of Canada\u2019s three major granting agencies: the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC), the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC) and the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR).<\/p>\n<p>USRAs are meant to nurture students\u2019 interests in, and develop their potential for, a research career in the natural sciences and engineering, social sciences and humanities, or health care.<\/p>\n<p>The funding \u2014 shared between the three agencies and the student\u2019s supervisor with support from the Office of the Vice-President, Research \u2014 provides 14 to 16 consecutive, full-time weeks of research employment that complements students\u2019 undergraduate studies in an academic setting.<\/p>\n<p>Brock\u2019s NSERC USRA allocation for 2025-26 includes 21 open awards, two awards for self-identified Black student researchers and an unlimited number for self-identified Indigenous student researchers.<\/p>\n<p>Two SSHRC awards are available for self-identified Black student researchers and one award from CIHR is available for self-identified Black student researchers.<\/p>\n<p>The application is a two-part process. Students must fill out the USRA Application Form <a href=\"https:\/\/forms.office.com\/Pages\/ResponsePage.aspx?id=FRGudvwe8kqlNuKyRDrxoGpQqRwY3DpEonuUF_hzVEhUOUxSREdDMVg3UjZSNENHVVMzRDg1VVpPVS4u\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Part A<\/a> and NSERC <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nserc-crsng.gc.ca\/OnlineServices-ServicesEnLigne\/instructions\/202\/USRA-BRPC_eng.asp\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Form 202 Part I<\/a>. Supervisors must fill out the USRA Application Form <a href=\"https:\/\/forms.office.com\/Pages\/ResponsePage.aspx?id=FRGudvwe8kqlNuKyRDrxoGpQqRwY3DpEonuUF_hzVEhUNk5WMVRTRVhNSEsxVVJPQlBJTlIyN1pLTy4u\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Part B<\/a> and NSERC <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nserc-crsng.gc.ca\/OnlineServices-ServicesEnLigne\/instructions\/202\/USRA-BRPC_eng.asp\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Form 202 II<\/a><strong>.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Students must also provide up to date transcripts, a statement of academic standing and have their supervisor provide a letter of reference.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong>Full requirements and instructions are contained within <a href=\"https:\/\/brocku.sharepoint.com\/Research-Services\/Shared%20Documents\/Forms\/AllItems.aspx?id=%2FResearch%2DServices%2FShared%20Documents%2FGrants%2FBrock%2DUniversity%2DUSRA%2DGuidelines%2D2025%2D2026%5FFinal%2Epdf&amp;parent=%2FResearch%2DServices%2FShared%20Documents%2FGrants\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Brock\u2019s 2025-26 USRA guidelines<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The application deadline is Monday, Feb. 24 at 5 p.m. No late applications will be accepted.
