{"id":98962,"date":"2025-01-30T13:45:48","date_gmt":"2025-01-30T18:45:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/?p=98962"},"modified":"2025-01-30T17:07:38","modified_gmt":"2025-01-30T22:07:38","slug":"brock-community-to-mark-international-development-week","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/2025\/01\/brock-community-to-mark-international-development-week\/","title":{"rendered":"Brock community to mark International Development Week"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Brock community will join individuals and organizations across Canada to celebrate <a href=\"https:\/\/www.international.gc.ca\/world-monde\/issues_development-enjeux_developpement\/idw-sdi.aspx?lang=eng\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">International Development Week (IDW)<\/a>, a nationwide Global Affairs Canada initiative recognizing efforts to build a better world together.<\/p>\n<p>Now in its 35th year, IDW focuses efforts to create a more peaceful, prosperous and inclusive world.<\/p>\n<p>Marla Terreberry-Portfilio, Associate Director, International Services with Brock International, says International Development Week, which runs from Sunday, Feb. 2 to Saturday, Feb. 8, is an opportunity for students, faculty and staff to explore the ways the University is contributing to a more sustainable future for all.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBrock\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/strategic-plan\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">commitment to sustainable development and global impact<\/a> are built into who we are as a university,\u201d she says. \u201cOur IDW events are a great way for the campus community to learn more about how Brock is making a difference and how to get involved.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The University was listed in the 2022, 2023 and 2024 Times Higher Education Impact Rankings as one of the top post-secondary institutions worldwide for <a href=\"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/sustainability\/sdgs_at_brock\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">its work toward achieving the United Nations\u2019 Sustainable Development Goals<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>A highlight of IDW on campus will be a discussion panel moderated by Acting Vice-President, Research Michelle McGinn on the global impact of research at Brock and particularly the work and global partnerships facilitated through the <a href=\"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/international\/partnerships\/global-scholars\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">global scholars program<\/a>. The panel discussion takes place from noon to 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 4 in RFP 214\/215 and online. Registration details are available on <a href=\"https:\/\/experiencebu.brocku.ca\/event\/286290\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ExperienceBU.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Other events taking place throughout the week include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A <a href=\"https:\/\/experiencebu.brocku.ca\/event\/286518\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">tour of the district energy system and tunnels<\/a> at 10 a.m. Monday, Feb. 3.<\/li>\n<li>A <a href=\"https:\/\/experiencebu.brocku.ca\/event\/286069\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">handmade market<\/a> in the International Centre from 1 to 3 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 4.<\/li>\n<li>A <a href=\"https:\/\/experiencebu.brocku.ca\/event\/285137\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Brock International Model UN<\/a> drop-in event, co-hosted by Brock Model United Nations and Brock International, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 4.<\/li>\n<li>An IDW-themed <a href=\"https:\/\/experiencebu.brocku.ca\/event\/263612\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Tuesday Trivia<\/a> event, co-hosted by Brock International and the Brock University Students&#8217; Union, at Isaac&#8217;s from 5 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 4.<\/li>\n<li>A <a href=\"https:\/\/experiencebu.brocku.ca\/event\/283601\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">free winter item and general household item pick-up<\/a> for students at the Faith and Life Centre in Alphie\u2019s Trough from 1:30 to 4 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 5. Registration is required.<\/li>\n<li>An online <a href=\"https:\/\/experiencebu.brocku.ca\/event\/286668\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">travel safety information session<\/a>\u00a0for those planning planning research trips, field courses or service learning trips from 10 to 11 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 6.<\/li>\n<li>An <a href=\"https:\/\/experiencebu.brocku.ca\/event\/286980\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">online discussion<\/a> about the Canada-Caribbean Institute and Brock\u2019s work in the Caribbean from 3 to 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 6.<\/li>\n<li>An online <a href=\"https:\/\/experiencebu.brocku.ca\/event\/288030\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">information session<\/a> for students who are interested in working abroad from noon to 1 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 7.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>IDW events are open to all students, staff and faculty.
