{"id":98554,"date":"2025-01-16T15:52:07","date_gmt":"2025-01-16T20:52:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/?p=98554"},"modified":"2025-01-16T18:22:18","modified_gmt":"2025-01-16T23:22:18","slug":"strong-sense-of-community-drives-brocks-recognition-as-one-of-hamilton-niagaras-top-employers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/2025\/01\/strong-sense-of-community-drives-brocks-recognition-as-one-of-hamilton-niagaras-top-employers\/","title":{"rendered":"Strong sense of community drives Brock\u2019s recognition as one of Hamilton-Niagara\u2019s Top Employers"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Brock University has been named one of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.canadastop100.com\/niagara\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Hamilton-Niagara\u2019s Top Employers for 2025<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>This is the seventh time that Brock has been recognized in the annual competition, organized by the editors of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.canadastop100.com\/niagara\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Canada\u2019s Top 100 Employers<\/a>, which recognizes Hamilton-Niagara organizations that are leaders in providing exceptional places to work. Brock has received recognition in every year it has applied.<\/p>\n<p>The 2025 winners were announced <a href=\"https:\/\/www.paperturn-view.com\/?pid=ODg8858537&amp;v=1.12\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">in a feature magazine<\/a> published Thursday, Jan. 16 by\u00a0<em>The Hamilton Spectator <\/em>and on Eluta.ca<\/p>\n<p>Brock President and Vice-Chancellor Lesley Rigg said the University\u2019s passionate faculty, staff and librarians play a vital role in making the institution an inclusive and welcoming\u00a0place that offers a world-class educational experience and drives transformative change on campus and beyond.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ve known since I first stepped onto campus that Brock was special and this recognition is further validation of our reputation as being an outstanding place to work,\u201d she said. \u201cThe strong and supportive community environment that exists at the University empowers employees to champion one another in achieving the shared goals of supporting student success and research excellence.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Employers were evaluated against other organizations in their field on eight criteria: workplace; work atmosphere and social; health, financial and family benefits; vacation and time off; employee communications; performance management; training and skills development; and community involvement.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_98556\" style=\"width: 437px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/NewHireOrientation-scaled.jpg\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-98556\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-98556\" src=\"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/NewHireOrientation-1050x700.jpg\" alt=\"A woman stands speaking to a class of people sitting at desks.\" width=\"427\" height=\"318\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-98556\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Janice Facey, Manager of Pension and Benefits, welcomes new employees to the University as part of a recent orientation session.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Some of the\u00a0reasons Brock was selected\u00a0include its flexible work options and generous paid time off; tuition subsidies for employees and their dependents; range of Brock-led <a href=\"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/2025\/01\/orientation-leadership-programs-set-employees-up-for-success\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">leadership and career development programs<\/a>; comprehensive benefits and pension plan, including maternity leave top-up; and support for employee health and well-being with a commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion.<\/p>\n<p>Amanda Villella, Acting Associate Vice-President, People and Culture, said Brock is committed to fostering a campus culture where employees feel respected, supported and valued as they meaningfully contribute to advancing the University\u2019s strategic goals. Equally important, she said, is supporting employees in achieving their own career objectives and fostering growth within their roles.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe want employees to look forward to coming to Brock every day and to feel empowered to flourish both personally and professionally,\u201d she said. \u201cRecognizing the unique needs of faculty and staff across the University, and providing opportunities to apply their diverse experiences, perspectives and talents to communal challenges, creates an environment where employees are inspired to succeed and make a difference.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Villella cites the <a href=\"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/2024\/12\/brock-employees-invited-to-examine-their-role-in-reconciliation\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">cross-collaborative effort of employees to tangibly contribute to decolonization and indigenization efforts on campus<\/a> as an example of how the Brock community thrives in working together to achieve common goals. The expansion of dedicated spaces on campus providing specialized supports and resources, and the implementation of the University\u2019s equity census, she added, also highlights Brock\u2019s commitment to growth and meeting the evolving needs of employees and students.<\/p>\n<p>Brock University offers unique career opportunities in teaching, research, administration, student support services and leadership.
