{"id":98513,"date":"2025-01-15T15:18:08","date_gmt":"2025-01-15T20:18:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/?p=98513"},"modified":"2025-01-23T15:42:24","modified_gmt":"2025-01-23T20:42:24","slug":"new-pathways-opening-doors-for-future-public-health-leaders","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/2025\/01\/new-pathways-opening-doors-for-future-public-health-leaders\/","title":{"rendered":"New pathways opening doors for future public health leaders"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Brock University is now offering tomorrow\u2019s public health leaders more ways than ever before to break through in the sector and create meaningful change.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The University is expanding opportunities for its Master of Public Health (MPH) students, helping them to gain ground in their studies and their future careers through innovative partnerships with the <a href=\"https:\/\/cchim.ca\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-outlook-id=\"e41bcfe6-f849-4a13-91f7-4a442578478c\">Canadian College of Health Information Management<\/a> (CCHIM), <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nosm.ca\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-outlook-id=\"e5177f3e-e9d7-4502-97ff-25b280c9fd54\">NOSM University<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.acsom.edu.dm\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-outlook-id=\"0b1932a8-6b3e-4375-afbf-77f017308c0e\">American Canadian School of Medicine<\/a> (ACSOM).<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cBrock University is proud to provide several pathways to success for the next generation of public health changemakers, who will work to better the health-care system for all,\u201d says Peter Tiidus, Dean of Brock\u2019s Faculty of Applied Health Sciences. \u201cThrough the MPH program, students are equipped with the tools necessary to reshape the world and reimagine the future in big and small ways.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Delivered exclusively online, Brock\u2019s MPH program recently became the first of its kind in Canada to be accredited by the CCHIM.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cThe accreditation is an honour for the University and a true benefit for its students,\u201d says Yuan Zhang, Assistant Professor in Brock\u2019s Department of Health Sciences. &#8220;This milestone empowers our students who are completing a Health Information Management specialization to challenge the CCHIM\u2019s Certified Health Information Management National Certification Exam and become certified health information professionals.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cBy combining advanced public health education with specialized health information management training, our MPH program equips graduates with the expertise to lead and innovate in this dynamic field,&#8221; he says.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Tailored to meet the needs of public health professionals, health practitioners and recent post-graduate students, the program is designed to provide the theoretical understanding and practical knowledge to be able to create, develop, design and evaluate public health strategies that will have a meaningful social impact at the local, national and global level.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8220;We are excited to welcome Brock University\u2019s Master of Public Health program as the first accredited graduate program of its kind in Canada,&#8221; says Jeff Nesbitt, CEO and Registrar of the Canadian College of Health Information Management and the Canadian Health Information Management Association. &#8220;This accreditation highlights the growing need for advanced expertise in health information, ensuring that public health professionals are equipped to drive meaningful change and enhance the health of Canadians.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Brock has also partnered with NOSM University to create a transfer pathway for NOSM University\u2019s Master of Medical Studies students and Brock\u2019s MPH students that will allow them to equally enrol in select graduate courses at each institution while remaining enrolled at their home institution.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8220;Our partnership with Brock University will empower our learners with specialized public health knowledge and skills, enhancing their ability to address the unique health-care challenges in the North,&#8221; says Alex Moise, Assistant Dean, Graduate Studies at NOSM University. &#8220;By combining our\u00a0biomedical and clinical\u00a0strengths with Brock&#8217;s\u00a0expertise in areas like epidemiology, health promotion and environmental health, we can foster innovative research, improve health-care delivery, and enhance the health and well-being of the communities we serve.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Suzanne Curtin, Brock\u2019s Vice-Provost and Dean of the Faculty of Graduate Studies and Postdoctoral Affairs, says the new MPH partnerships further increase access to the dynamic online program.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cOpening more doors to graduate students from all backgrounds means welcoming fresh and innovative ideas to the table. That is how we as a society create meaningful change,\u201d she says. \u201cThrough these new partnerships and the foundational learning of the MPH program, our students will be set for success.
