Brock University has been honoured by the Consulate General of the People\u2019s Republic of China in Toronto for its dedication to supporting the safety, well-being and academic success of Chinese students.<\/p>\n
The University received top recognition in the post-secondary category of the Consulate\u2019s 2024 For the Wellness and Security of Chinese Students in Ontario and Manitoba competition.<\/em> Representatives from Brock, including Associate Director of International Student Recruitment Anna Guo and Associate Director of International Services Marla Terreberry-Portfilio, attended the award ceremony on Nov. 30 in Toronto alongside two Chinese students from Brock.<\/p>\n The ceremony brought together more than 50 representatives from Chinese student associations, universities, local educational authorities and private schools across the Toronto consular district. At the event, Consulate officials spoke on consular protection and safe study practices, while attendees shared experiences and discussed strategies to enhance safety and support for international students.<\/p>\n As part of the program, Marla Terreberry-Portfilio delivered a presentation highlighting Brock\u2019s ongoing efforts to create a safe, inclusive and welcoming environment for all international students, including those from China.<\/p>\n \u201cOur dedication to inclusivity, equity and decolonization is woven into the fabric of our community,\u201d Terreberry-Portfilio said in her remarks, during which she outlined initiatives such as enhanced orientation programs, mental health resources and opportunities for cultural exchange at Brock.<\/p>\n \u201cThis is not just about being welcoming \u2014 it\u2019s about ensuring that each student feels valued, safe and empowered. For international students in particular this is critically important to their academic success and well-being.\u201d<\/p>\n The competition, held from August to October, encouraged innovative, practical and impactful initiatives to support the physical and mental health of Chinese students while promoting their academic success.<\/p>\n \u201cThis award is a testament to Brock University\u2019s unwavering commitment to supporting the safety and well-being of international students, including those from China, both on campus and in the broader community,\u201d said Guo. \u201cThis recognition also strengthens our valued partnership with the Chinese Consulate-General, reaffirming our shared goal of ensuring the success and happiness of international students in Canada.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\t
