Fifteen professors were nominated by their students to receive the award, which pays special tribute to the role of graduate faculty supervisors.<\/p>\n<p>The award pays tribute to \u201cthe selfless researchers and teachers who believe in students and believe in graduate education,\u201d said Marilyn Rose, Dean of <a href=\"http:\/\/brocku.ca\/graduate-studies\" target=\"_blank\">Graduate Studies<\/a>, during the award presentation.<\/p>\n<p>Each nomination is proof of the generosity of the mentors to their students, she said.<\/p>\n<p>Willoughby has supervised numerous PhD and MA students since joining Brock in 1995, Rose said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShe has placed her students in community settings and encouraged the development of their leadership skills, and seen them through to prominent positions after graduation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Student comments included testimonies of Willoughby\u2019s passion for research, her infectious enthusiasm, her sensitivity to her students\u2019 future goals and her faith in her students\u2019 talent and potential.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI hope that one day I will be able to pay forward the kindness, guidance and mentorship she has shown me over the years, to my own students,\u201d one testimonial read.<\/p>\n<p>Here are the other professors nominated:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Darlene Bay, Accounting<\/li>\n<li>Robert Dimand, Economics<\/li>\n<li>Maurice Feldman, Applied Disability Studies and Child and Youth Studies<\/li>\n<li>Diane Mack and Philip Wilson, Applied Health Sciences<\/li>\n<li>Cheryl McCormick, Psychology<\/li>\n<li>Michelle McGinn, Graduate and Undergraduate Studies, Education<\/li>\n<li>Tim O\u2019Connell, Applied Health Sciences<\/li>\n<li>Frances Owen, Applied Disability Studies and Child and Youth Studies<\/li>\n<li>Cristina Santos, Studies in Comparative Literatures and Arts<\/li>\n<li>Sidney Segalowitz, Psychology<\/li>\n<li>Hans Skott-Myhre, Child and Youth Studies<\/li>\n<li>Jeffrey Stuart, Biological Sciences<\/li>\n<li>Evangelia Tsiani, Applied Health Sciences<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>About 70 graduate students gave oral and poster presentations at the sixth annual conference, which is held by the Faculty of Graduate Studies, the <a href=\"http:\/\/brocku.ca\/research\" target=\"_blank\">Office of Research Services<\/a> and the <a href=\"http:\/\/brocku.ca\/gsa\" target=\"_blank\">Graduate Students&#8217; Association<\/a>.
