{"id":90819,"date":"2024-02-08T15:39:12","date_gmt":"2024-02-08T20:39:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/?p=90819"},"modified":"2024-08-29T16:41:56","modified_gmt":"2024-08-29T20:41:56","slug":"red-dress-display-event-to-remember-missing-and-murdered-indigenous-women-and-girls","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/2024\/02\/red-dress-display-event-to-remember-missing-and-murdered-indigenous-women-and-girls\/","title":{"rendered":"Red dress display, event to remember missing and murdered Indigenous women and girls"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Empty red dresses hanging throughout Brock\u2019s campuses and a day of learning will honour missing and murdered Indigenous women, girls and two-spirit people next week.<\/p>\n<p>The display and event are part of The REDress Project, an initiative that began as an art installation by M\u00e9tis artist Jaime Black at the University of Winnipeg in 2011 to signify the loss of thousands of Indigenous women, girls and two-spirit, lesbian, gay, trans, bisexual, queer, questioning, intersex and asexual (2SLGTBQQIA) people to colonial violence.<\/p>\n<p>Organized by Brock\u2019s Vice-Provost, Indigenous Engagement, the Hadiya\u2019dag\u00e9nhahs First Nations, M\u00e9tis and Inuit Student Centre and Niagara College, the project will see dresses hung at the University\u2019s main campus and its Marilyn I.
