{"id":90703,"date":"2024-02-05T15:21:11","date_gmt":"2024-02-05T20:21:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/?p=90703"},"modified":"2024-02-05T17:22:47","modified_gmt":"2024-02-05T22:22:47","slug":"toast-of-the-town-cuvee-returns-to-raise-glass-to-excellence-in-ontario-wine","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/2024\/02\/toast-of-the-town-cuvee-returns-to-raise-glass-to-excellence-in-ontario-wine\/","title":{"rendered":"Toast of the town: Cuv\u00e9e returns to raise glass to excellence in Ontario wine"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The stage is set for the return of Ontario\u2019s premiere celebration of VQA wine, bringing together winemakers and wine lovers to toast the thriving local industry.<\/p>\n<p>Hosted by Brock University\u2019s Cool Climate Oenology and Viticulture Institute (CCOVI), Cuv\u00e9e is a weekend-long affair centred on the Grand Tasting, where Ontario winemakers will unveil their favourite selections.<\/p>\n<p>The signature event \u2014 the largest of its kind \u2014 begins at 7 p.m. Saturday, March 30 at the Holiday Inn Hotel and Conference Centre in St. Catharines and features more than 30 VQA wineries showcasing close to 100 wines from Ontario\u2019s top winemakers. The selections are paired with gourmet cuisine prepared by celebrated chefs at 10 live cooking stations.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCuv\u00e9e both celebrates excellence in our industry and supports the next generation of winemakers and grape growers by funding valuable research and providing scholarships to students through the Cuv\u00e9e Legacy Fund,\u201d said CCOVI Director Debbie Inglis.<\/p>\n<p>The Grand Tasting is followed by Apr\u00e8s Cuv\u00e9e, where guests can dance the night away with live music from Jonesy and enjoy a selection of local craft brews, ciders, sparkling wine and Icewine. Special hotel room rates, in limited supply, are available to guests through the <a href=\"https:\/\/cuvee.ca\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Cuv\u00e9e website<\/a>.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_90704\" style=\"width: 441px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-90704\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-90704\" src=\"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/Cuvee-Jonesy-1050x750.jpg\" alt=\"A band plays for a packed dancefloor of guests as they dance under purple lights.\" width=\"431\" height=\"308\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-90704\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">In addition to more than 30 VQA wineries showcasing close to 100 wines from Ontario\u2019s top winemakers, the 2024 event will feature live music at Apr\u00e8s Cuv\u00e9e.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Cuv\u00e9e Manager Barb Tatarnic said the last time the Grand Tasting was held in person in 2019, the event drew a record crowd of nearly 900 guests.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re very excited for the return of Cuv\u00e9e. It\u2019s an unparalleled event that represents the seamless connection between the public and the grape and wine industry,\u201d she said. \u201cCuv\u00e9e is the perfect opportunity for guests to meet Ontario winemakers and to learn what their favourite wines are and why. More than a one-of-a-kind occasion, Cuv\u00e9e truly showcases excellence in wine and food alongside our vibrant and supportive community.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>While the Grand Tasting is a highlight, Cuv\u00e9e runs from March 29 to 31 with its Cuv\u00e9e en Route passport program.
