The Brock Library\u2019s Makerspace is bringing together makers from across Niagara for a handmade market with an innovative spin.<\/p>\n

Brock\u2019s first-ever Makerfest will highlight new and digital technologies on Thursday, March 14 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Rankin Family Pavilion.<\/p>\n

\u201cMaker festivals are becoming more common as public and academic libraries increasingly introduce communities to technology that wouldn\u2019t otherwise be available,\u201d says Makerspace Supervisor Derek Schneider.<\/p>\n

Like a community craft fair, Brock\u2019s Makerfest will showcase artisan vendors and exhibitors while also offering Makerspace tours, free demonstrations and workshops in laser cutting, 3D modelling and 3D printing. Attendees will also have a chance to make their own soldered pin to take home.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis event seeks to strengthen and showcase as many different talents as possible,\u201d says Makerspace Technician and Facilitator Zak Mason. \u201cWe also hope to inspire current and prospective students to learn more about how making can be incorporated into their educational and career pathways.\u201d<\/p>\n

Anyone interested in selling or exhibiting handmade goods at Makerfest can apply to be a vendor by emailing makerspace@brocku.ca<\/a>. Applicants should include the skill or medium they work in, whether electricity is required for their booth and whether they need access to any Makerspace tools and equipment.<\/p>\n

The event is free and open to the public and visitor parking information can be found on the Parking Services website<\/a>. Vendor parking passes will be provided.<\/p>\n
