A Brock University public lecture will discuss what reconciliation looks like for Canadian universities.<\/p>\n
Hosted by Indigenous Educational Studies in Brock\u2019s Faculty of Education, the lecture will be presented by Indigenous scholar, award-winning writer and activist Niigaan Sinclair on Thursday, Jan. 25 from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. in the Goodman School of Business Atrium.<\/p>\n
Sinclair, who is Anishinaabe (St. Peter\u2019s\/Little Peguis), holds the Faculty of Arts Professorship in Indigenous Knowledge and Aesthetics in the Department of Indigenous Studies at the University of Manitoba.<\/p>\n
Named to Maclean\u2019s<\/em> Power List in 2022 as one of the most influential individuals in Canada alongside his father Murray Sinclair, Chief Commissioner of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC), Sinclair writes for The Winnipeg Free Press<\/em> and is regularly featured on CBC\u2019s Power & Politics<\/em>.<\/p>\n Sheila Cote-Meek, Professor and Director of Indigenous Educational Studies at Brock, said Sinclair\u2019s perspectives will offer valuable insight on the path of decolonization at Canadian higher education institutions, including Brock.<\/p>\n \u201cAs a well-known Indigenous studies scholar and leader at the University of Manitoba, Dr. Sinclair brings his experience as an Indigenous faculty member paired with his deep knowledge of Indigenous culture and insight on reconciliation,\u201d Cote-Meek said.<\/p>\n Registration for the in-person event is required through Brock University Tickets<\/a>.
