This increase translates into a nine-per-cent jump in the graduate student enrolment over 2008-09.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_902\" style=\"width: 230px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-902\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-902\" title=\"marilyngradstudiesweb2\" src=\"http:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/01\/marilyngradstudiesweb2.jpg\" alt=\"marilyngradstudiesweb2\" width=\"220\" height=\"130\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-902\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Marilyn Rose<\/p><\/div>\n<p>The numbers demonstrate the growing reputational strength of the University\u2019s master\u2019s and doctoral programs, said Marilyn Rose, dean, Faculty of Graduate Studies.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe competition for graduate students was intense this year,\u201d she said. \u201cFor us to go beyond our enrolment projection is a strong indicator that our graduate experience is in high demand.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The marked growth in the number of graduate students enrolled on a full-time basis as a measure of the maturity of graduate education at Brock, she said. Brock offers 33 master\u2019s and six doctoral programs. The newest program, a master\u2019s in Criticial Sociology, was launched in September. The University\u2019s academic plan, Brock 2014, calls for several objectives in the graduate sector, including an increase in the proportion of graduate students to 10 per cent of the full-time equivalent (FTE) student population by 2014.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs we grow, we are committed to ensuring students continue to receive the kind of personal learning experience they have come to expect from Brock,\u201d Rose said. \u201cThat means engaging students as partners in our research and scholarship.
