Students from some of Canada\u2019s top business schools put their skills and spirit to the test last weekend when Brock’s Goodman School of Business played host to the 34th MBA Games.<\/p>\n
Held from Friday, Jan. 5 to Sunday, Jan. 7, the games saw 269 students from 16 schools compete in the areas of academics, athletics and spirit for a chance to take home the prestigious Queen\u2019s Cup.<\/p>\n
Goodman\u2019s team finished third overall, taking home the title in the spirit category, where they also topped the video and team performance sub-categories. The team also placed third in debate, which made its debut at this event, and third in spikeball \u2014 one of the athletic competitions.<\/p>\n
University of Canada West took the overall title with the Alberta School of Business at the University of Alberta finishing second.<\/p>\n
Goodman Dean Barry Wright told the competitors that they achieved and exceeded his expectations for the event.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe future is bright in Canada because we have you as our future leaders,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Alena Romi, co-captain of the Goodman delegation said the event was intense and full of passion.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are extremely proud of the fact that we won the overall spirit category,\u201d Romi said. \u201cComing third overall really shows that collectively the team has performed very well, and I can\u2019t ask for anything more.\u201d<\/p>\n
The competition also has a philanthropy element, with this year\u2019s charity partner being the Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA). The teams collectively raised $37,172 for CMHA\u2019s Recovery Colleges program. During the opening ceremonies Friday night , Niagara Falls was illuminated by Goodman students with the Horseshoe Falls being lit in the colours of the MBA Games and the American Falls being lit in CMHA\u2019s colours to honour the partnership.<\/p>\n
Brock took the top spot in 2023, winning the right to host this year\u2019s competition. The organizing committee included eight MBA students from last year\u2019s winning team with support from Goodman staff. Current graduate and undergraduate students volunteered to support event operations.<\/p>\n\n\t
