Nwakerendu Waboso (BA \u201907, MA \u201912) will discuss allyship\u2019s role along her leadership journey when she presents “It Takes a Village to Raise up a Leader” for Women in Leadership (WIL) Wednesday, Nov. 15.<\/p>\n
In the talk, allyship is defined as actions taken to advance and amplify the voices of marginalized individuals in combination with efforts to recognize one\u2019s privileges and biases.<\/p>\n
As a current PhD candidate in the Department of Child and Youth Studies, Waboso\u2019s leadership at Brock has been recognized numerous times. In January of this year, she was among speakers at an event<\/a> to counter anti-Black racism on campus. The mentor and volunteer at Ability Empowerment Day<\/a> has also received a Graduate TA award<\/a> and was among the inaugural recipients of the Horizon Graduate Student Scholarship<\/a>. When speaking about receiving a 2022 Accessibility and Inclusion Recognition Award<\/a>, Waboso described how assessing situations with a lens of inclusivity and accessibility allows her to understand and support others to succeed.<\/p>\n All are invited to tune in on Wednesday, Nov. 15 from noon to 1 p.m. via Microsoft Teams.
