Francine McCarthy is taking her passion for the Anthropocene to the next level as a speaker at a TEDx event this weekend.<\/p>\n
The Brock Professor of Earth Sciences will deliver one of a dozen presentations at the TEDxManhattanBeach \u2013 Future Shaping<\/a> conference taking place Saturday, Nov. 4 in Manhattan Beach, Calif.<\/p>\n Introduced as the \u201cScientist on the forefront of Earth\u2019s New Epoch,\u201d McCarthy will be sharing her work and vision arising from her Crawford Lake<\/a> research. She and her team have gathered evidence from the Milton, Ont., lake that supports the creation of a proposed new epoch on the Earth\u2019s geologic time scale called the Anthropocene.<\/p>\n \u201cThis venture has led McCarthy to explore the broader aspects of this topic, and to engage with artists and researchers in the social sciences and humanities as well as community members, including Indigenous leaders, in addition to her fellow natural and physical scientists,\u201d says the TEDxManhattanBeach biography page<\/a>.<\/p>\n The TEDx talk is one of a flurry of events at which McCarthy is sharing her Anthropocene research.<\/p>\n For instance, she, Brock colleague Professor of Earth Sciences Uwe Brand, and three Earth Sciences master\u2019s students attended the Geological Society of America’s Annual Meeting last month.
