Two Brock University faculty members were recently recognized by the Canadian Society of Exercise Physiology (CSEP) for their outstanding research and service contributions.<\/p>\n

Nota Klentrou (left), Professor and Chair of Brock’s Kinesiology Department, received the Canadian Society for Exercise Physiology (CSEP) Honour Award from outgoing CSEP Chair Bill Sheel.<\/p><\/div>\n

At the association\u2019s annual conference Oct. 11 to 14 in Calgary, Alta., Nota Klentrou, Professor and Chair of the Kinesiology Department, was presented with the CSEP Honour Award in recognition of her exceptional contributions to exercise physiology in Canada.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Honour Award is the CSEP\u2019s highest and most prestigious form of recognition, and Dr. Klentrou is only the second woman to be recognized with it,\u201d said Peter Tiidus, Dean of the Faculty of Applied Health Sciences.<\/p>\n

Klentrou\u2019s research uses basic and applied science approaches to investigate human performance and the implications of sport training in children and youth. She investigates how exercise, inflammation, immune responses, sexual maturation, adiposity and nutrition choices<\/a> affect musculoskeletal growth and development.<\/p>\n

She is involved with many health and sports organizations, including CSEP, Osteoporosis Canada and the International Gymnastics Federation. Klentrou has also supported international sporting events such as the 2004 Summer Olympic Games in Athens, the 2015 Pan American Games in Toronto and the 2022 Canada Games in Niagara<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Before receiving her award Klentrou, a CSEP Fellow herself, had the privilege of presenting Tiidus with a CSEP Fellow designation, which recognizes leaders in the society who have inspired research excellence among CSEP members or strengthened the relationship between academic and professional members through significant or consistent service.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
