{"id":88627,"date":"2023-10-13T12:43:08","date_gmt":"2023-10-13T16:43:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/?p=88627"},"modified":"2023-10-13T18:35:55","modified_gmt":"2023-10-13T22:35:55","slug":"top-goodman-students-encouraged-to-combine-academic-rigour-with-ethical-leadership","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/2023\/10\/top-goodman-students-encouraged-to-combine-academic-rigour-with-ethical-leadership\/","title":{"rendered":"Top Goodman students encouraged to combine academic rigour with ethical leadership"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Standing before a room of top business students, prominent business leader Mark Arthur (BAdmin \u201977) urged the group to uplift each other, serve their communities and pave the way for a brighter, more ethical future in business.<\/p>\n<p>Arthur, President of iA Private Wealth Management and Chair of Brock\u2019s Board of Trustees, shared with the group of Beta Gamma Sigma student inductees what it meant for him to receive an honorary membership to Brock\u2019s chapter of the international honours organization years after crossing the stage in the first graduating class of Brock Business students.<\/p>\n<p>Beta Gamma Sigma recognizes the top 10 per cent of the undergraduate class and the top 20 per cent of graduate students at institutions accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB).<\/p>\n<p>\u201cToday as I stand before you, it\u2019s not just as an individual being honoured, but a testament to the very mission of the international honours society Beta Gamma Sigma,\u201d Arthur said. \u201cA mission that goes beyond the academic recognition and delves deeply into the cultivation and celebration of leadership, professional excellence and the highest values that the world of business and management can offer.\u201d<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_88628\" style=\"width: 478px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-88628\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\" wp-image-88628\" src=\"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/BGS-Fall-2023-22-1050x700.jpg\" alt=\"Alt Text: Two women stand with gold pins next to a hanging purple fabric banner.\" width=\"468\" height=\"312\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-88628\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Business students Isabella Durcak (left) and twin sister Zoe stand with the Beta Gamma Sigma chapter flag during their induction to the honours society.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>The ceremony, held Oct. 13 in the Goodman School of Business atrium, inducted 36 undergraduate and 11 graduate students into Brock\u2019s chapter. Membership in the society is described as the highest recognition a business student anywhere in the world can achieve.<\/p>\n<p>Third-year students and twin sisters Isabella and Zoe Durcak were honoured to be inducted into Beta Gamma Sigma and felt it was recognition of their hard work they had put into their studies.\u00a0 Isabella is studying Accounting while Zoe is concentrating in human resources in the Bachelor of Business Administration program.<\/p>\n<p>The sisters set high personal goals for themselves inside and outside of the classroom, not only excelling academically but also balancing school with varsity sports, competing together in women\u2019s lightweight doubles rowing.<\/p>\n<p>The pair have their sights set on winning the Ontario University Athletics (OUA) title in two weeks\u2019 time and carrying over momentum to the national university championship in Burnaby, British Columbia.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur goal this year is to stay on the Dean\u2019s Honours list and win OUAs and nationals,\u201d Isabella said.<\/p>\n<p>Brock\u2019s Beta Gamma Sigma Chapter was recently recognized on the society\u2019s 2022-23 Chapter Honour Roll receiving the highest honours distinction.
