A new art exhibition featuring the work of Visual Arts (VISA) student Laurie Morrison will explore experimental photography processes with a focus on environmental sustainability.<\/p>\n
“Found and Ground” opens on Saturday, Oct. 7 and runs until Saturday, Oct. 28 at the Visual Arts and Student Exhibition Space at Brock\u2019s Marilyn I. Walker School of Fine and Performing Arts (MIWSFPA).<\/p>\n
Through her art practice, Morrison is interested in finding more ecologically friendly alternatives for traditional, and often toxic, substances used in the photography process. An example is spent coffee grounds, which Morrison uses for analogue film developer solution.<\/p>\n
Experimenting with organic material, her current exhibition incorporates pigments made from organic material drawn from her garden and the broader surrounding landscape to colourize black and white analogue photos.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe resulting images will invite viewers to reflect on how photography and the natural world are intertwined,\u201d Morrison said.<\/p>\n
The exhibition will also feature a display of community work created by Brock students and the public during a recent plant-based photography workshop led by visiting artist and VISA Walker Cultural Leader Trudi Lynn Smith.<\/a><\/p>\n On Tuesday, Oct. 10, Morrison will lead a workshop at the MIWSFPA entitled \u201cEco- photography: Sustainable Approaches to Image Making\u201d as part of Ontario Culture Days.
