{"id":8793,"date":"2011-03-17T10:06:38","date_gmt":"2011-03-17T15:06:38","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/?p=8793"},"modified":"2011-03-17T10:06:38","modified_gmt":"2011-03-17T15:06:38","slug":"news-from-classics-philosophy-and-physical-education-and-kinesiology","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/2011\/03\/news-from-classics-philosophy-and-physical-education-and-kinesiology\/","title":{"rendered":"News from Classics, Philosophy, and Physical Education and Kinesiology"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Physical Education and Kinesiology hosts conference<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Department of Physical Education and Kinesiology hosted the eighth annual <a href=\"..\/..\/applied-health-sciences\/conferences-events\/ontario-biomechanics-conferenc\" target=\"_blank\">Ontario Biomechanics Conference<\/a> (OBC) in Barrie on March 11 and 12.<\/p>\n<p>The OBC is a student-based conference covering such topics as ergonomics and human factors, tissue mechanics, gait and posture, and biological signals.<\/p>\n<p>There were 150 participants at the conference, which was organized by professors Craig Tokuno and David Gabriel. There were also numerous corporate sponsors.<\/p>\n<p>The keynote, &#8220;Computational Modeling of the Human Shoulder,&#8221; was given by Richard Hughes from the Department of Orthopedics at the University of Michigan.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Classics<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Fanny Dolansky was the invited keynote speaker on February 12 for McMaster University&#8217;s Fifth Annual Undergraduate Classics Conference at which she presented a paper titled &#8220;Religion and the Roman Family: Three Festivals and Their Importance for Understanding Roman Domestic Life.&#8221; On March 3, she was also an invited presenter at McMaster&#8217;s Department of Classics&#8217; speaker series where she gave a paper titled &#8220;The Family Under Fire: A Study of the Rape Narratives of Ovid, <em>Fasti<\/em> 2.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Philosophy<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Christine Daigle was one of a few keynote speakers at the international conference &#8220;Existenzphilosophie und Ethik.&#8221; She presented the paper &#8220;Facing the Ethical Challenge: On Living Authentically&#8221; on March 12 at the Freie Universit\u00e4t Berlin.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Faculty and staff appearances posted on March 17.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":[],"categories":[36,37],"tags":[28,144,30,161,66],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/8793"}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/1"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=8793"}],"version-history":[{"count":2,"href":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/8793\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":8796,"href":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/8793\/revisions\/8796"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=8793"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=8793"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=8793"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
