{"id":87641,"date":"2023-09-01T13:53:42","date_gmt":"2023-09-01T17:53:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/?p=87641"},"modified":"2023-09-01T13:53:42","modified_gmt":"2023-09-01T17:53:42","slug":"badger-business-makes-homecoming-a-little-sweeter","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/2023\/09\/badger-business-makes-homecoming-a-little-sweeter\/","title":{"rendered":"Badger business makes Homecoming a little sweeter"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>With a dash of nostalgia and a sprinkle of school spirit, Beechwood Doughnuts has perfected the recipe for a sweet treat Brock grads can enjoy on their walk down memory lane.<\/p>\n<p>The local culinary landmark has partnered with <a href=\"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/alumni\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Brock University Alumni Relations<\/a> to add a Brock Homecoming sprinkle doughnut to its menu for September.<\/p>\n<p>Beechwood Doughnuts co-owner Tayler Book (BA \u201914), herself a Brock graduate, answered the call from the University to bring a taste of home to this year\u2019s Homecoming celebration.<\/p>\n<p>Book has built a reputation for her entrepreneurial prowess and was honoured by the University with the 2018 Faculty of Social Sciences Distinguished Graduate Award in recognition of her exceptional business achievements and community impact.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_87642\" style=\"width: 574px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-87642\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\" wp-image-87642\" src=\"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/Beechwood-Homecoming-Doughnut-36-1050x700.jpg\" alt=\"A box of six doughnuts with red and white sprinkles.\" width=\"564\" height=\"376\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-87642\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Beechwood Doughnuts has launched a Brock Homecoming doughnut for September.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>\u201cWe were thrilled to have Tayler come on board with this new Homecoming partnership,\u201d says Christine Richard, Interim Manager, Alumni Programming. \u201cIt\u2019s a great example of what\u2019s possible when Badgers remain connected to their alma mater.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The red and white sprinkled doughnut celebrates the beginning of term and the University\u2019s upcoming Homecoming, which see hundreds of graduates return to Brock\u2019s main campus annually for in-person events and virtual programming.<\/p>\n<p>Richard says Homecoming is about more than creating an exciting lineup of events each year. The rich alumni tradition is deeply rooted in creating meaningful opportunities for graduates to connect with the University, each other and the Niagara community in different ways. Every year, alumni are involved in Homecoming programming as webinar subject experts, event hosts and volunteers.<\/p>\n<p>Beechwood Doughnuts is one of many alumni-owned establishments participating in this year\u2019s Homecoming celebration. More than 50 Brock alumni, student, faculty and staff vendors will gather in the downtown Market Square in St. Catharines on Sunday, Sept. 24 for the inaugural <a href=\"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/homecoming\/badger-bazaar\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Badger Bazaar<\/a>.
