The winter season of the Brock University Film Series (BUFS<\/a>) opens with an emotional tale about a famous poet and his muse.<\/p>\n

\"goodhairposterweb\"Bright Star<\/em>, directed by Australian Jane Campion (The Piano<\/em>, Portrait of a Lady<\/em>), depicts a romance between John Keats – who died at age 25 – and Fanny Brawne. It will show at the Empire Theatre on Wednesday.<\/p>\n

The film is one of many BUFS has been able to access as a member of Film Circuit, which is a division of the Toronto International Film Festival, said Amanda Bishop, BUFS operations manager.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is the time of the year when movie-going is most exciting,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

\u201cCritics have made their \u2018Best of 2009\u2019 lists, we\u2019re hearing buzz about the big awards ceremonies, and more and more festival films are available to groups like us.\u201d<\/p>\n

This season will also feature the films A Serious Man<\/em>, Good Hair<\/em> and An Education<\/em>.<\/p>\n

A Serious Man<\/em> is the latest film from the Coen Brothers. It is about a man struggling with questions of fate and family, and a brother who refuses to move out of the house.<\/p>\n

\"aneducationweb\"Good Hair<\/em> is a documentary by comedian Chris Rock, whose daughter asked him why she \u201cdidn\u2019t have good hair.\u201d The film explores the answer to that question, and its implications for society and black women.<\/p>\n

An Education<\/em>, starring Peter Sarsgaard and Carey Mulligan, features a romance between a 16-year-old girl and an older man who sets out to teach her about life.<\/p>\n

BUFS screens Wednesdays at 7:00 p.m. at the Empire Theatre, Pen Centre. All tickets are $10. Multi-film passes for the winter season are available until the end of January.<\/p>\n
