{"id":87338,"date":"2023-08-17T13:13:05","date_gmt":"2023-08-17T17:13:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/?p=87338"},"modified":"2023-08-17T17:06:39","modified_gmt":"2023-08-17T21:06:39","slug":"brocks-department-of-residences-renamed-housing-services","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/2023\/08\/brocks-department-of-residences-renamed-housing-services\/","title":{"rendered":"Brock\u2019s Department of Residences renamed Housing Services"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Brock University\u2019s Department of Residences is now going by a new name: Housing Services.<\/p>\n<p>The change comes as on-campus housing options continue to evolve to meet the needs of students and customers who are seeking housing at Brock.<\/p>\n<p>In 2022, Ancillary Services worked with leading industry consultants The Scion Group to complete a Residence Master Plan. The process included the completion of a demand study, market analysis, student survey, stakeholder consultation and a review of marketing and branding.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur Residence Master Plan work helped inform the development of our strategic priories related to housing at Brock,\u201d says Cindy Chernish, Director, Housing Services.<br \/>\n\u201cThe change to Housing Services aligns well with our goals over the next five years.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Housing Services includes three portfolios:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Residence:\u00a0Available to Brock students in any year of study, offering an eight-month contract and fully furnished living.\u00a0Supported by Residence Life staff, upper-year, live-in mentors and program co-ordinators, transition support co-ordinators and 24-7 Service Desk support.\u00a0A meal plan is mandatory.<\/li>\n<li>Brock Suites:\u00a0Upper-year and graduate housing located in Gateway Suites and Quarry View Townhouses. Independent living with on-campus convenience. All-in pricing under an eight-month contract, including utilities, parking, a fully furnished space and 24-7 Service Desk support. An added meal plan is optional.<\/li>\n<li><span lang=\"EN-US\">Short-term stay:\u00a0Accommodation options include overnight, Spring\/Summer Term stays and unit rentals. <a title=\"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/2023\/01\/lowenberger-residence-available-for-short-term-stays\/\" href=\"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/2023\/01\/lowenberger-residence-available-for-short-term-stays\/\">Overnight launched last year<\/a> and is available all year for stays of one to six days on campus at $59\/night. Overnight Fall and Winter Term stays also include a voucher for <\/span>an all-you-care-to-enjoy breakfast program featuring several dining stations, coffee, tea, juices and baked goods.\u00a0<span lang=\"EN-US\">Group bookings are available.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u201cOur core service remains Residence; however, opportunity exists in growing the upper-year market and continuing to evaluate the need for new opportunities around third-party partnerships and monitoring the demand for graduate housing,\u201d says Ed Wall, Associate Vice-President, Ancillary Services.<\/p>\n<p>The Housing Services team is working diligently, preparing to move in nearly 3,000 students at the beginning of September.<\/p>\n<p>Applications for housing both in Residence and Brock Suites are still being accepted.
