{"id":87094,"date":"2023-07-31T12:27:48","date_gmt":"2023-07-31T16:27:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/?p=87094"},"modified":"2023-07-31T16:29:02","modified_gmt":"2023-07-31T20:29:02","slug":"abstract-submissions-open-for-digital-governance-symposium","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/2023\/07\/abstract-submissions-open-for-digital-governance-symposium\/","title":{"rendered":"Abstract submissions open for digital governance symposium"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Members of the Brock community are invited to take part in an interdisciplinary symposium focused on digital governance this fall.<\/p>\n<p>Hosted by the Faculty of Social Sciences and led by by Associate Professor Blayne Haggart in Brock\u2019s Department of Political Science and Associate Professor Natasha Tusikov of York University, <a href=\"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/social-sciences\/symposium-series\/digital-regulation-in-the-public-interest\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Digital Regulation in the Public Interest: Surveying the Field<\/a><em> will be held virtually Tuesday, Nov. 7.<\/em><em>\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Part of<\/em> the <a href=\"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/social-sciences\/symposium-series\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Social Sciences Symposium Series<\/a>, <em>the event<\/em>\u00a0is intended to showcase a variety of research and activity related to public and private governance in an increasingly commodified and knowledge-driven digital society.<\/p>\n<p>It is expected to represent multiple disciplines and explore such themes as:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The political economy of data, intellectual property and digital systems.<\/li>\n<li>Critical approaches to digital policies, including platform governance, social media and machine learning\/artificial intelligence.<\/li>\n<li>Social and environmental justice, broadly defined, in the digital\/knowledge-driven era.<\/li>\n<li>Power and control in the digital society.<\/li>\n<li>Indigenous digital\/knowledge-policy issues.<\/li>\n<li>State and non-state, domestic and transnational governance.<\/li>\n<li>Who benefits in and from the knowledge-driven society?
