The highest achievers in Brock’s Goodman School of Business were recognized Tuesday, June 13, when they were inducted into the University’s Beta Gamma Sigma honour chapter.<\/p>\n

The induction ceremony, which took place the same day Goodman’s newest graduates marked Brock’s 113th Convocation, welcomed 63 new student members and presented an honorary membership to Brock President and Vice-Chancellor Lesley Rigg.<\/p>\n

Although Rigg couldn\u2019t attend the ceremony in person, she addressed the group gathered in the Goodman School of Business Atrium by video message to convey her gratitude for being welcomed as an honorary member of Brock\u2019s chapter of the prestigious international honour society.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe exceptional students inducted into Beta Gamma Sigma embody Goodman\u2019s commitment to academic excellence,\u201d Rigg said. \u201cMore than that, they exemplify honour, wisdom and earnestness \u2014 the guiding principles of the business honour society.\u201d<\/p>\n

Beta Gamma Sigma recognizes the top 10 per cent of the undergraduate class and the top 20 per cent of the graduate class at institutions accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB).<\/p>\n

For Daniela Gatti (BBA \u201921, MSc \u201923), being inducted to Beta Gamma Sigma on her Convocation day held special meaning.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis was the perfect end note to my seven years of study at Goodman,\u201d she said. \u201cIt\u2019s recognition for all of the hard work that\u2019s gone into earning my MSc.\u201d<\/p>\n

Gatti said it was her involvement outside of the classroom as a residence don, Vice-President of Internal Affairs for the Graduate Business Council and as a Goodman Ambassador that helped her apply what she was studying in grad school and provide an important balance to her studies.<\/p>\n

She said being recognized as a top graduate student at Goodman is extra motivation as she heads off to start her PhD program at the Centre of Industrial Relations and Human Resources at the University of Toronto in September.<\/p>\n

Accounting Professor Paul Scarbrough was recognized with the 2022-23 Beta Gamma Sigma Professor of the Year award, which is voted on by current student members of the society.<\/p>\n

Associate Dean of Undergraduate Programs Jennifer Li told inductees that Tuesday\u2019s ceremony represents a chance to reflect on their academic achievement.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou are miles ahead compared to the first time you stepped into a Goodman classroom, and you should take a moment to look at how different you are today and give yourselves a pat on the back,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n\n\t
