Grape-growing and winemaking graduates of Brock\u2019s Oenology and Viticulture (OEVI) program won big at the 23rd annual Cuv\u00e9e Gala<\/a> on March 4 at the Niagara Fallsview Casino.<\/p>\n

OEVI grads Emma Garner, Angela Kasimos, Rob Power, Tom Green and Jason Roller won eight Cuv\u00e9e gold awards while Gordon Robert and Fred DiProfio both garnered second place finishes out of a total of 22 awards.<\/p>\n

Alumnus Kevin Donohue, vineyard manager at Colio Estate Wines, was presented with a Cuv\u00e9e Award of Excellence in Viticulture, which recognizes an individual who promotes excellence in their vineyard practices. The award was presented by the sponsor BASF Canada Inc. It was also presented by this year\u2019s Grape King, Debbie Inglis, a grape grower who is also the director at Brock\u2019s Cool Climate Oenology and Viticulture Institute<\/a> (CCOVI).<\/p>\n

\u201cKevin is an ideal recipient of this distinguished award,\u201d Inglis said. \u201cHe is an influential individual whose knowledge and hard work helps advance the Ontario grape and wine industry.\u201d<\/p>\n

Cuv\u00e9e is a wine competition whereby Ontario\u2019s winemakers submit a selection of their finest wines to be judged by a panel of their peers.<\/p>\n
