{"id":84838,"date":"2023-04-12T10:40:37","date_gmt":"2023-04-12T14:40:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/?p=84838"},"modified":"2023-04-13T11:32:45","modified_gmt":"2023-04-13T15:32:45","slug":"tas-honoured-at-celebration-of-teaching-excellence","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/2023\/04\/tas-honoured-at-celebration-of-teaching-excellence\/","title":{"rendered":"TAs honoured at celebration of teaching excellence"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The dedication and commitment of Brock\u2019s teaching assistants (TA), seminar leaders and lab demonstrators was celebrated at a recent lunchtime gathering.<\/p>\n<p>On Monday, April 10, TAs along with their family, friends and Brock colleagues attended the annual TA Awards celebration hosted by the University\u2019s Centre for Pedagogical Innovation (CPI).<\/p>\n<p>The University relies on hundreds of teaching assistants, who aid students in Brock\u2019s seven Faculties, and gathers together to honour their achievements every April.<\/p>\n<p>During this year\u2019s celebration, individual awards were presented in four categories to recognize outstanding teaching assistants.<\/p>\n<p>Among the recipients was Nwakerendu (Kay) Waboso from the Department of Child and Youth Studies, who received the Graduate Teaching Assistant Award.<\/p>\n<p>Waboso said she was humbled, happy and grateful to be celebrated with the award after taking CPI-led courses to help her re-examine her teaching and techniques.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI continue to learn that teaching is one side of a two-sided coin,\u201d she said. \u201cThe other side of that coin is all that I learn from students.
