{"id":84752,"date":"2023-04-06T14:45:40","date_gmt":"2023-04-06T18:45:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/?p=84752"},"modified":"2023-04-06T15:19:20","modified_gmt":"2023-04-06T19:19:20","slug":"brock-human-resources-now-known-as-office-of-people-and-culture","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/2023\/04\/brock-human-resources-now-known-as-office-of-people-and-culture\/","title":{"rendered":"Brock Human Resources now known as Office of People and Culture"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Brock University\u2019s Department of Human Resources has undergone a name change to better reflect its renewed focus.<\/p>\n<p>Reimagined as the Office of People and Culture, the unit is moving forward focused on progressive and adaptive strategic human resources management practices that concentrate on Brock\u2019s people, culture and work environment.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAfter spending the past few years focused on pandemic response and recovery, which followed a busy and challenging 18-month stabilization period after implementing Workday-HR, the timing was right to turn our attention to how the team can best support our leaders, managers, faculty and staff to realize our institutional strategic priorities,\u201d said Jennifer Guarasci, Associate Vice-President, People and Culture.<\/p>\n<p>The transition, which went into effect April 1, also offered the opportunity to \u201caddress some of the challenges we face in HR,\u201d she said, with emphasis placed on streamlining pathways and connections into and within the department, improving service times and reviewing policies and practices.<\/p>\n<p>The unit remains committed to leveraging Workday-HR technology to help Brock leaders and managers make data-driven decisions, and removing barriers and creating opportunities in order to foster a culture of inclusivity, accessibility, reconciliation and decolonization in the workplace.<\/p>\n<p>The name change and renewed focus will build on Brock\u2019s efforts that have seen the University recognized as one of <a href=\"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/2022\/11\/brock-named-one-of-hamilton-niagaras-top-employers-for-fifth-time\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Hamilton-Niagara\u2019s Top Employers for 2023<\/a>, and named earlier this year among the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.forbes.com\/lists\/canada-best-employers\/?sh=671d62a22790\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">annual list of Canada\u2019s Best Employers<\/a> compiled by <em>Forbes<\/em> and market research firm Statista.<\/p>\n<p>The new name also complements several recent and ongoing People and Culture initiatives, including:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Changing the department\u2019s reporting structure to ensure dedicated, expert resources are working to leverage Brock\u2019s HR technology and improve access to employment data;<\/li>\n<li>Creating a dedicated management-level role to support the unit in achieving its equity, diversity and inclusion (EDI) goals;<\/li>\n<li>Developing an employee EDI strategy in 2023;<\/li>\n<li>Exploring opportunities to improve Brock\u2019s competitiveness in the labour market;<\/li>\n<li>Creating and\/or offering sustainable, high-impact learning and development programs so employees can develop deeper skills and capabilities, do more meaningful work and help people grow in their career;<\/li>\n<li>Developing training and resources for managers to support their efforts in recruiting high-performing faculty and staff to Brock;<\/li>\n<li>Finalizing the University\u2019s progressive Flexible Work Policy, demonstrating Brock\u2019s commitment to wellness and work-life balance as a core workplace value; and<\/li>\n<li>Preparing for the launch of an employee engagement survey, providing detailed insights into areas of the organization that are thriving, as well as where efforts should be focused to drive satisfaction, performance and retention.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u201cThe renaming of our department is reflective of our focus, philosophy and the path forward;
