A group of Social Sciences<\/a> faculty members at Brock have launched a new research unit with a focus on environmental and sustainability issues.<\/p>\n

The Brock Environmental Sustainability Research Unit (BESRU<\/a>), which launched last month, is housed within the Department of Tourism and Environment<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cOver the last year, we have been working together, getting to know each other and increasingly recognizing where our interests were coalescing,\u201d said Ryan Plummer, professor of Tourism and Environment and a founding member of BESRU.<\/p>\n

The group\u2019s primary areas of research include water resources and resilience, environmental governance, climate change and adaptation, and First-Nations social justice and equity.<\/p>\n

\u201cThese are really the three big areas, the three initial themes that sparked our collective interest,\u201d Plummer said. \u201cFormally establishing the research unit was a way for us to now start doing some really interesting collaborative and world-class international research around some of these areas in which we have strength.\u201d<\/p>\n
