{"id":84095,"date":"2023-03-09T10:21:13","date_gmt":"2023-03-09T15:21:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/?p=84095"},"modified":"2023-03-10T13:32:03","modified_gmt":"2023-03-10T18:32:03","slug":"nominations-open-for-awards-recognizing-excellence-in-grad-studies","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/2023\/03\/nominations-open-for-awards-recognizing-excellence-in-grad-studies\/","title":{"rendered":"Nominations open for awards recognizing excellence in Grad Studies"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Nominations are being accepted until Saturday, April 1 for three Faculty of Graduate Studies (FGS) awards honouring outstanding mentorship, collaboration and leadership in the Brock graduate community.<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/graduate-studies\/fgs-awards\/#1510087209753-e56dee25-a91b\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Michael Plyley Graduate Mentorship Awards<\/a>, named in honour of Brock\u2019s former Dean of Graduate Studies (2011-16), recognizes the essential role of mentorship in graduate education in two categories: mentorship of master\u2019s students only and mentorship of both master\u2019s and PhD students. Graduate students are invited to submit nominations. Two award winners will receive $1,000 to assist with ongoing graduate student mentorship.<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/graduate-studies\/fgs-awards\/#1494862921175-ebdd8f7f-e6a8\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Marilyn Rose Graduate Leadership Award<\/a>, named in honour of Brock\u2019s former Dean of Graduate Studies (2005-2011), recognizes faculty, staff or students who have demonstrated leadership in enhancing graduate studies at the University. The award winner will receive $500 and a certificate of recognition.<\/p>\n<p>New in 2023 is the <a href=\"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/graduate-studies\/fgs-awards\/#1677781541878-50a41d0d-d7d9\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Suzanne Curtin \u2013 Christopher Yendt Graduate Collaboration Award<\/a>, named after current Vice-Provost and Dean of Graduate Studies, Suzanne Curtin, and past Graduate Students\u2019 Association president Christopher Yendt.<\/p>\n<p>The award recognizes a current graduate student who has contributed to enhancing a collaborative culture for Brock\u2019s graduate community. This could include creating opportunities for co-operation and providing leadership with internal and external allies or partners. The award recipient will be presented with $1,000 and a certificate of recognition.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe hope to encourage collaboration through this new award, as when we work effectively together, great things can happen,\u201d Curtin said. \u201cWorking together to achieve a common goal is rewarding and, at the same time, helps build the skills required for success in graduate school and beyond. This award, along with our FGS awards in mentorship and leadership, recognizes and celebrates our amazing graduate community \u2013 one I\u2019m very proud to be part of.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Nomination criteria, guidelines and the selection process for each of the awards can be found on the <a href=\"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/graduate-studies\/fgs-awards\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Faculty\u2019s website<\/a>.
