Brock University\u2019s Building Better Research series continues with a variety of topics planned for February, including two workshops focused on Indigenous research.<\/span><\/p>\n

Kicking off the month is a presentation on Indigenous research grants led by Robyn Bourgeois, Vice-Provost, Indigenous Engagement. The presentation will offer details on how to apply for<\/span> funding being offered<\/span><\/a> by the Office of the Vice-President, Research.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

A second Indigenous research workshop will focus on the First Nations Principles of ownership, control, access and possession. The First Nations Information and Governance Centre will discuss how to ensure First Nations have control over data collection processes, and that they own and control how this information can be used.<\/span><\/p>\n

Also taking place in February are presentations on using Brock\u2019s Makerspace in research, led by Makerspace Supervisor Tabitha Lewis, and using plain language communication for knowledge mobilization, led by Research Communications and Media Relations Specialist Cathy Majtenyi. <\/span>A recent example of using the Makerspace in research<\/span><\/a> is when a Master of Science student used the Makerspace\u2019s Cricut machine to create custom adhesives for use in Brock\u2019s Spine Biomechanics and Neuromuscular Control Lab.<\/span><\/p>\n
