{"id":83052,"date":"2023-01-19T10:10:40","date_gmt":"2023-01-19T15:10:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/?p=83052"},"modified":"2023-01-20T01:12:52","modified_gmt":"2023-01-20T06:12:52","slug":"cancer-research-getting-boost-from-brock-womens-basketball-team","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/2023\/01\/cancer-research-getting-boost-from-brock-womens-basketball-team\/","title":{"rendered":"Brock women\u2019s basketball team rallying fans in support of cancer research"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Brock women&#8217;s basketball team is lacing up for an important cause this month.<\/p>\n<p>The Badgers are participating in the 16th annual Shoot for the Cure to help raise money supporting the Canadian Cancer Society (CCS).<\/p>\n<p>Brock will host its Shoot for the Cure home game against the York Lions at Bob Davis Gymnasium on Saturday, Jan. 21 at 6 p.m. Fans in attendance will have an opportunity to scan a QR code and donate towards the team\u2019s fundraising goals.<\/p>\n<p>Donations can also be made online via the <a href=\"https:\/\/support.cancer.ca\/site\/TR\/ShootfortheCure\/SFTC_NW_?team_id=497513&amp;pg=team&amp;fr_id=28734\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Brock Badgers\u2019 Canadian Cancer Society fundraising website<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are proud to be directly involved with an important cause that affects so many people worldwide,\u201d said assistant coach Allie Columbus. \u201cEvery single dollar makes a difference in this fantastic initiative that aims to educate individuals about cancer, early detection and ultimately finding a cure.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In conjunction with other U SPORTS women\u2019s basketball programs across the country, the Badgers are raising funds to help reach the total campaign fundraising goal of $100,000 through virtual and in-person events from Jan. 18 to 29.<\/p>\n<p>Last season\u2019s event raised more than $156,000 for the CCS.
