{"id":82899,"date":"2023-01-11T09:00:05","date_gmt":"2023-01-11T14:00:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/?p=82899"},"modified":"2023-01-11T16:04:24","modified_gmt":"2023-01-11T21:04:24","slug":"sustainable-event-planning-the-focus-of-upcoming-seminar","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/2023\/01\/sustainable-event-planning-the-focus-of-upcoming-seminar\/","title":{"rendered":"Sustainable event planning the focus of upcoming seminar"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Transdisciplinary Sustainability Seminar Series, hosted by Brock\u2019s Environmental Sustainability Research Centre (ESRC), resumes this week with a public talk on event planning and sustainability from celebrated industry professional Natalie Lowe.<\/p>\n<p>Associate Professor Jessica Blythe has organized this year\u2019s series, which is offered in conjunction with the graduate Transdisciplinary Tutorial and Seminar course for master\u2019s students and the Centre\u2019s first cohort of PhD students.<\/p>\n<p>Blythe says the series is meant to \u201cinspire ideas, hope, solutions and optimism in the context of sustainability\u201d among Brock faculty, staff and students as well as the wider community.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSustainability is a transdisciplinary field that draws on knowledge from both the academy and from professionals in the field, so we\u2019ve lined up speakers who can help us integrate knowledge from both the research side and the action practitioner, real-world side to advance sustainability,\u201d she says.<\/p>\n<p>Lowe\u2019s session is the first of four this winter covering a wide range of topics:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Jan. 13\u2014 \u201cThe road to environmental crisis is paved with good intentions\u201d presented by Natalie Lowe<\/li>\n<li>Jan. 27\u2014 \u201cGeospatial Niagara \u2014 A Ten Year Retrospective\u201d presented by Darren Platakis<\/li>\n<li>Feb. 10 \u2014 \u201cHighly sensitive people connect more strongly to nature: what does that mean for sustainability?\u201d presented by Post-doctoral Fellow Jen Holzer<\/li>\n<li>March 3 \u2014 \u201cCOVID-19 and community resilience\u201d presented by Associate Professor Livianna Tossutti<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Falling on alternating Fridays, the seminars begin at 11 a.m. and run for about one hour.
