{"id":82738,"date":"2022-12-20T14:00:30","date_gmt":"2022-12-20T19:00:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/?p=82738"},"modified":"2023-06-12T12:29:54","modified_gmt":"2023-06-12T16:29:54","slug":"brock-researchers-featured-in-media-reports-on-earths-new-geologic-epoch","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/2022\/12\/brock-researchers-featured-in-media-reports-on-earths-new-geologic-epoch\/","title":{"rendered":"Brock researchers featured in media reports on Earth\u2019s new geologic epoch"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Brock University is among the forefront of global efforts to define a new epoch in Earth\u2019s geologic record called the \u2018Anthropocene,\u2019 which is capturing worldwide interest.<\/p>\n<p>The Sunday, Dec. 18 edition of <em>The<\/em> <em>New York Times<\/em> featured <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2022\/12\/17\/climate\/anthropocene-age-geology.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">a front-page article<\/a> quoting Earth Sciences Professors Francine McCarthy and Martin Head on the establishment of this new interval of geologic history.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe public attention that this earth science initiative has received is somewhat surprising, but it is evidence that concern for our planet \u2014 and awareness of our impact on it \u2014 has become mainstream,\u201d says McCarthy.<\/p>\n<p>McCarthy was also featured in the CBC\u2019s Saturday, Dec. 3 episode of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbc.ca\/listen\/live-radio\/1-51-quirks-and-quarks\/clip\/15952613-pinpointing-anthropocene.-where-signature-age-humans\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><em>Quirks and Quarks<\/em><\/a>.
