Brock University recently joined thousands of non-profit and charitable organizations in celebrating Giving Tuesday, a global movement that encourages people to take action to support causes closest to their hearts.<\/p>\n

Thanks to friends and supporters across campus and throughout the community, the University raised more than $46,000 on Tuesday, Nov. 29 in support of student success through various fundraising initiatives.<\/p>\n

\u201cGiving Tuesday truly demonstrates that supporting students is at the heart of the generosity of our donors, many of whom are alumni, staff and faculty,\u201d said Sonia Dupte, Executive Director, Development and Campaigns. \u201cThis community support enables Brock to continue to be a leader in both student and academic excellence.\u201d<\/p>\n

This year, Brock\u2019s supporters once again chose to invest in areas supporting the University\u2019s student experience. The many acts of generosity on Giving Tuesday primarily supported the Brock Student Support Fund, Brock Sports and Faculty-specific initiatives.<\/p>\n

\u201cAll gifts made this year will have a direct impact in the lives of our students on and off campus,\u201d said Dupte. \u201cBy supporting areas of greatest need for our students, all gifts will work to ensure Brock\u2019s facilities, services and offerings are designed to support our students in various aspects of their educational journey, for which they will have Giving Tuesday donors to thank.\u201d<\/p>\n

In addition to various email communications, social and website promotion and on-campus promotion<\/a> by the Development and Donor Relations team, Brock\u2019s student call centre also worked to connect with more than 1,000 friends of the University in celebration of Giving Tuesday.<\/p>\n

Fourth-year Applied Linguistics student and second-year student caller Shani Agard said the calls she has with donors, alumni and the Brock community are always enjoyable and often enlightening.<\/p>\n

\u201cGiving Tuesday has been a great time for us students to connect and engage with the community on current campus initiatives. We are all amazed by how invested our community is in learning about our experience as Brock students and student life here on campus, and how willing they are to support us wherever they can,\u201d she said. \u201cListening to their stories of their own experiences makes me proud to be a Brock student and inspires me to stay connected and support my alma mater once I graduate.\u201d<\/p>\n
