Lights, camera, research!<\/p>\n

An upcoming competition aims to give Brock graduate students the red-carpet treatment as they showcase their research through video.<\/p>\n

Hosted by the Faculty of Graduate Studies, GRADflix is calling on current and recent graduate students to submit creative, short videos of their work for a chance to win cash prizes.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re excited to shine a spotlight on our graduate students\u2019 research and creativity with the return of GRADflix for a second year,\u201d said Lauryn Carrick, Manager, Graduate Education Engagement. \u201cLast year, we saw amazing results from our students, and we can\u2019t wait to see what this year\u2019s competitors come up with.\u201d<\/p>\n

To help participants prepare for the competition, which calls for video submissions of 60 seconds or less, Grad Studies will host a series of workshops \u00a0beginning Thursday, Nov. 24.<\/p>\n

The series will help students learn and sharpen digital media skills for the competition, and for their own personal and professional development. Sessions will be run by Brock experts with a focus on creating engaging videos and research storytelling.<\/p>\n

GRADflix 101<\/a> will kick off the series Thursday, Nov. 24 at 1 p.m. The online session will cover details about the competition and answer questions participants may have.<\/p>\n

The next session,\u00a0Using the Media to Amplify your Research Story,<\/a> takes place Thursday, Dec. 1, followed by the final workshop,\u00a0Filmmaking in the Lab: Creating Engaging Videos from Start to Finish<\/a>, on Thursday, Dec. 8 at 1 p.m.<\/p>\n

Registration for all workshops is available through\u00a0ExperienceBU<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Registration for the GRADflix competition is now open. Videos must be submitted by Tuesday, Jan. 31 through the\u00a0event web page<\/a>. A red-carpet event will be held Feb. 15 to showcase the video submissions.<\/p>\n

Videos will be judged based on students\u2019 ability to communicate and conceptualize their research, creativity and visual impact along with technical quality.<\/p>\n

Four cash prizes are available ranging from $300 to $1,000. They include first-, second- and third-place winners, along with a People\u2019s Choice Award, which will see attendees vote for their favourite video.<\/p>\n

The GRADflix concept was originally developed\u00a0by the\u00a0University of Waterloo<\/a>, where it found great success in celebrating and showcasing graduate students\u2019 research.<\/p>\n
