An upcoming learning opportunity for Brock researchers will discuss equity, diversity and inclusion (EDI) in research.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Held Monday, Nov. 14 as part of the Building Better Research series, the noon-hour <\/span>seminar will discuss fostering accessible, anti-racist and inclusive research practice and design. It will be led by <\/span>Syna Thakur, EDI in Research Advisor with the University’s Office of the Vice-President, Research.<\/span><\/p>\n

Thakur says EDI considerations in research practice and design are important because they help ensure research teams, participants, audiences and research outputs are representative of the Canadian public. <\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThis is especially critical in publicly funded research,\u201d she says. \u201cFor example, if the purpose of research is to advance the health, happiness and security of the world around us, then the processes behind it should represent our population.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Thakur says EDI considerations in research are beneficial because they can drive innovation and strengthen research design by expanding perspectives, methodologies and analyses, and can support retention and career development of students and early scholars, <\/span>especially those from equity-deserving groups.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

As part of the workshop, Thakur will lead participants in a critical reflection of their power and relationship to the research process, the unique perspectives and expertise each person on the research team can offer and what changes can be made to advance the research process.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Brock researchers, faculty and graduate students interested in attending \u2018Introduction to Equity, Diversity and Inclusion in Research\u2019 are asked to <\/span>register via ExperienceBU<\/span><\/a>.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Building Better Research is a professional development workshop series offered jointly by the Office of Research Services and Brock University Library to enhance research efforts at Brock.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
