{"id":81687,"date":"2022-11-04T12:52:19","date_gmt":"2022-11-04T16:52:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/?p=81687"},"modified":"2022-11-07T16:20:10","modified_gmt":"2022-11-07T21:20:10","slug":"braley-rattai-on-provinces-use-of-notwithstanding-clause","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/2022\/11\/braley-rattai-on-provinces-use-of-notwithstanding-clause\/","title":{"rendered":"BRALEY-RATTAI: On province&#8217;s use of notwithstanding clause"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Associate Professor of Labour Studies Alison Braley-Rattai <a href=\"https:\/\/nationalpost.com\/pmn\/news-pmn\/ontario-school-strike-governments-threat-to-use-the-notwithstanding-clause-again-is-an-assault-on-labour-relations\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">wrote a piece recently published in the <em>National Post<\/em><\/a> about the ongoing dispute between the provincial government and education workers.<\/p>\n<p>She writes:<\/p>\n<section class=\"article-content__content-group\"><em>&#8220;The government of Ontario has tabled Bill 28 aimed at denying 55,000 education employees represented by CUPE the legal right to strike in order to keep them on the job.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/section>\n<section class=\"article-content__content-group\"><em>The bill, an example of back-to-work legislation, affects educational assistants, early childhood educators, librarians, administrative staff and custodians.
