Spooky season has arrived, and while many are getting ready to hand out treats to visiting goblins and ghosts, Brock University is preparing its students for a fun and safe Halloween weekend.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Departments across campus have planned several engaging on- and off-campus events, such as visits to a pumpkin patch, Halloween movie nights, tarot card readings, pumpkin carving, a murder mystery event, glow fencing and\u00a0<\/span>Harry Potter-<\/em>themed yoga.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Brock’s annual Trick or Eat event is also back this year, with students going door to door in local neighbourhoods on Halloween night collecting food donations for Community Care of St. Catharines and Thorold.<\/span><\/p>\n

Psychology master’s student Gurprince Attlas attended the Halloween Paint Night hosted by the Gender and Sexual Violence Peer-to-Peer team from Brock’s Office of Human Rights and Equity on Monday, Oct. 24.<\/p><\/div>\n

\u201cThere’s no shortage of opportunities for students to connect with each other and have fun this Halloween season in a safe and responsible way,\u201d said Amber Scholtens, Interim Director, Student Life and Success.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Several educational campaigns are also taking place this month focusing on appropriate costumes, healthy relationships, and responsible drinking and substance use.<\/span><\/p>\n

As part of the Don\u2019t Put the Bad in Badger campaign, Brock\u2019s Off-Campus and Neighbourhood Relations team will be going door to door Thursday, Oct. 27 in local neighbourhoods that have large student populations to promote safe and responsible celebrations. Along with encouraging appropriate behaviour, the printed materials distributed also educate students on the possible fines that can be incurred if municipal bylaws are violated.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cMany students are new to living on their own and have embraced St. Catharines and Thorold communities as their home,\u201d said Scholtens. \u201cOur role as a university is not only to educate students in the classroom, but also to encourage them to be responsible and community-minded leaders.\u201d\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
