Brock will commemorate the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation Friday, Sept. 30.<\/p>\n
Formerly known as Orange Shirt Day, the day of reflection is meant to honour and remember the more than 150,000 Indigenous children forced to attend residential schools across Canada.<\/p>\n
While the University will remain open, no classes are scheduled, giving students the opportunity to learn about and reflect on the legacy and ongoing impact of Canada\u2019s residential school system.<\/p>\n
The Brock community is encouraged to wear orange and take part in activities<\/a> planned both on campus and in the surrounding community, including reflection activities hosted by the Centre for Pedagogical Innovation<\/a>.<\/p>\n The Brock University Library will screen Indigenous films from the National Film Board of Canada from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. in Classroom B of the Matheson Learning Commons.<\/p>\n Events are also happening across the Niagara region, including a Recognition of Survivors taking place at the Niagara Parks Power Station from 10 to 11 a.m.<\/p>\n Brock is also sponsoring the Niagara Regional Native Centre\u2019s powwow, devoted to residential school survivors, Saturday, Oct. 1 at the Meridian Centre from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.<\/p>\n
