{"id":80516,"date":"2022-09-22T12:47:37","date_gmt":"2022-09-22T16:47:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/?p=80516"},"modified":"2024-10-11T15:58:25","modified_gmt":"2024-10-11T19:58:25","slug":"brock-simulation-lab-to-help-next-generation-of-nurses-thrive","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/2022\/09\/brock-simulation-lab-to-help-next-generation-of-nurses-thrive\/","title":{"rendered":"Brock simulation lab to help next generation of nurses thrive"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Precious Idiake spoke to her patient in a calming tone as she checked her vital signs and offered insight into the process \u2014 all while a room full of people looked on.<\/p>\n<p>The fourth-year Brock Nursing student demonstrated the ways in which she and her peers interact with patient simulators in the University\u2019s new Nursing Clinical Simulation Lab during a grand opening held for the space on Thursday, Sept. 22.<\/p>\n<p>Set up to mirror a hospital unit, the lab in Brock\u2019s East Academic building provides a safe environment for students to gain valuable hands-on experience and further develop their skills and confidence as they prepare for clinical placements in the health-care field.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_80521\" style=\"width: 465px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-80521\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\" wp-image-80521\" src=\"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/Nursing-lab-opening-2-RS-1050x700.jpg\" alt=\"A group of eight people stood in a row while the man in the middle cut a piece of gauze. The group is standing next to a patient simulator in a lab designed to look and feel like a hospital room.\" width=\"455\" height=\"303\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-80521\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Brock faculty, staff and students held a gauze-cutting ceremony for Brock\u2019s new Nursing Clinical Simulation Lab on Thursday, Sept. 22.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>The new space will support the significant growth recently experienced by the University\u2019s nationally recognized Nursing programs.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Department of Nursing has almost tripled in size within the past two years,\u201d says Department Chair Karyn Taplay. \u201cThe new lab will enhance our ability to deliver nursing education that is innovative, current and realistic of what students will encounter in clinical practice.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>This September, Brock welcomed 228 incoming Bachelor of Science in Nursing students \u2014 its largest ever cohort.
