Representatives from the St. Catharines and Thorold public libraries will be on campus next week offering library memberships to Brock students and employees.<\/p>\n

Community members are invited to drop by the Matheson Learning Commons on the main floor of the Library to register for library membership with the St. Catharines Public Library<\/a> on Tuesday, Sept. 20 from noon to 4 p.m. and with the Thorold Public Library<\/a> on Thursday, Sept. 22 from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m.<\/p>\n

The annual membership drive is one way the Brock Library fulfils its strategic focus of engaging with the local community, says Nicole Nolan, Acting University Librarian.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe public libraries complement what the Brock Library offers,\u201d she says. \u201cWhile we may focus on scholarly collections for teaching, learning and research, we also offer popular reading, health and wellness topics, and a wide variety of digital streaming services. The public libraries\u2019 vast collection of recreational reading, historic resources and interest-based event programming will expand the types of resources and programming available to faculty and staff beyond their academic pursuits.\u201d<\/p>\n

Like the Brock University Library, the St. Catharines and Thorold public libraries offer members much more than books. The St. Catharines Public Library, for example, lends out a library of things<\/a>, such as Nintendo Switch consoles, sports and leisure kits, telescopes and a 148-piece tool set. Members also have free access to LinkedIn Learning for Library, Ancestry Library Edition, video games, streaming music and video, thousands of eBooks and audiobooks on CloudLibrary and Hoopla, and weekly events, such as book clubs and adult craft nights.<\/p>\n

Students and employees interested in getting a local library card are asked to bring ID with them.<\/p>\n
