{"id":80126,"date":"2022-09-01T17:30:53","date_gmt":"2022-09-01T21:30:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/?p=80126"},"modified":"2022-09-01T17:30:53","modified_gmt":"2022-09-01T21:30:53","slug":"brock-badgers-look-to-build-upon-historic-athletic-campaign","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/2022\/09\/brock-badgers-look-to-build-upon-historic-athletic-campaign\/","title":{"rendered":"Brock Badgers look to build upon historic athletic campaign"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Brock Badgers are gearing up for their 59th sports season after enjoying a historic athletic campaign during the 2021-22 season.<\/p>\n<p>Last season, the Badgers recorded the most successful sports season in Brock University\u2019s history with seven championship titles, and 10 teams earning a place at the national championships. A total of 30 teams represented Brock at the provincial level.<\/p>\n<p>The Badgers begin 2022-23 Ontario University Athletics (OUA) league play when the men\u2019s and women\u2019s soccer teams visit Algoma in Sault Ste. Marie on Friday, Sept. 2.<\/p>\n<p>In September, more than 730 Brock student-athletes will participate in tryouts and training camps to prepare for the fall and winter sports seasons.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis season will be one where our teams will strive to renew and revitalize a student experience that engages Badgers\u2019 biggest supporters: students, alumni, family and friends,\u201d\u00a0said Melissa Krist, Executive Director, Brock Sports and Recreation.\u00a0\u201cWe are looking forward to continuing to build on the momentum we have built with last year&#8217;s unprecedented championship season.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Badgers have several new head coaches leading teams into this season including: <a href=\"https:\/\/gobadgers.ca\/news\/2022\/8\/24\/general-news-brock-badgers-name-new-softball-head-coach.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Courtney Gilbert<\/a> (softball), <a href=\"https:\/\/gobadgers.ca\/news\/2022\/7\/25\/mens-rugby-brock-badgers-name-new-mens-rugby-coach.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Sean Medeiros<\/a> (men\u2019s rugby), <a href=\"https:\/\/gobadgers.ca\/news\/2022\/6\/27\/general-news-brock-badgers-name-new-swimming-head-coach.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">David Ling<\/a> (men\u2019s and women\u2019s swimming), <a href=\"https:\/\/gobadgers.ca\/news\/2022\/5\/26\/mens-hockey-former-ncaa-coach-to-lead-brock-badgers-mens-hockey-team.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">T.J. Manastersky<\/a> (men\u2019s hockey), <a href=\"https:\/\/gobadgers.ca\/news\/2022\/4\/5\/womens-soccer-brock-badgers-name-carli-tingstad-to-lead-womens-soccer-program.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Carli Tingstad<\/a> (women\u2019s soccer) and <a href=\"https:\/\/gobadgers.ca\/news\/2022\/4\/5\/mens-soccer-brock-tabs-aleks-balta-as-next-mens-soccer-head-coach.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Aleks Balta<\/a> (men\u2019s soccer).<\/p>\n<p>The most significant change for the Badgers this campaign will be a return to full regular season programming after the University and OUA altered training and event schedules to address the COVID-19 pandemic.<\/p>\n<p>The OUA soccer schedule is back up to 12 games from 10 the previous year. The Brock volleyball teams play a 20-game regular season schedule after just 14 matches in 2021-22.
