Brock University is mourning the death of retired Associate Professor Herbert (Herb) MacKenzie, who passed away Aug. 18.<\/p>\n
MacKenzie started at Brock in 2003 teaching management and marketing courses at the graduate and undergraduate level while focusing his research in the areas of selling, sales management, business-to-business channel relations and management education.<\/p>\n
He served as Chair of Goodman\u2019s Marketing, International Business and Strategy Department from 2006 to 2012. Although MacKenzie officially retired from the University in 2015, he continued his work on campus until recent years. Outside of his career in academia, he was a consultant to both private and public sector businesses.<\/p>\n
\u201cHerb was a prolific book author and an engaging educator. He was always with a laugh nearby and was known for wearing mismatched socks \u2014 on purpose,\u201d said Interim Goodman Dean Barry Wright. \u201cOur thoughts are with his beloved wife Florence and his family.\u201d<\/p>\n
MacKenzie had a passion for coaching student case competition teams and led student delegations to prestigious national and international competitions, including the Global Family Enterprise Case Competition in Vermont and the Inter-Collegiate Business Competition at Queen\u2019s University, among others.<\/p>\n
He was also a strong supporter of the Brock Marketing Association student club, helping with their signature \u201cSo You Think You Can Sell\u201d interactive sales scenario case competition for many years, often helping to source cases and recruit judges.<\/p>\n
The Administrative Sciences Association of Canada recognized his contribution to case-based learning in 2014 at their annual conference, awarding him the Long Time Reviewer Award in the Case Track division.<\/p>\n
