{"id":79491,"date":"2022-07-15T13:40:15","date_gmt":"2022-07-15T17:40:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/?p=79491"},"modified":"2022-07-15T14:38:27","modified_gmt":"2022-07-15T18:38:27","slug":"new-staff-vice-chair-elected-to-pachred","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/2022\/07\/new-staff-vice-chair-elected-to-pachred\/","title":{"rendered":"New staff Vice-Chair elected to PACHRED"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Trecia McLennon, Brock\u2019s Director of EDI Culture and Education in Human Resources, has been elected staff Vice-Chair of the <a href=\"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/president\/pachred\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">President\u2019s Advisory Committee on Human Rights, Equity and Decolonization (PACHRED).<\/a><\/p>\n<p>McLennon brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the role, having previously worked\u00a0as Intercultural Communications Co-ordinator in Brock\u2019s Office of Human Rights and Equity, and currently\u00a0serving as elected staff representative to Brock\u2019s Board of Trustees and Chair of the City of St. Catharines\u2019 advisory committee for equity and inclusion.<\/p>\n<p>She is also a former assistant professor in the School of International Studies at the University of Ulsan in South Korea and a former instructor of Global Management Studies at Toronto Metropolitan University.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPACHRED\u2019s work is incredibly important and its advice is invaluable,\u201d says Brock\u2019s Interim President and Vice-Chancellor Lynn Wells. \u201cTrecia\u2019s experience and expertise will be an excellent addition to the committee\u2019s executive team as it continues to help the institution advance its goal of fostering a culture of inclusivity, accessibility, reconciliation and decolonization.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPACHRED\u2019s members include students, staff and faculty members who are extremely committed to bettering the Brock community,\u201d says McLennon, who currently serves on the committee as a staff representative. \u201cI\u2019m very much looking forward to joining the committee\u2019s executive and continuing to work toward a more inclusive, equitable institution.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Last month, McLennon helped <a href=\"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/2022\/06\/acts-of-hate-have-no-place-in-our-community\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">co-ordinate Brock\u2019s response<\/a> to a number of acts of hate committed in the Niagara region, working with Human Rights and Equity to offer virtual trauma response, counselling and other supports to the campus community.<\/p>\n<p>In May, McLennon represented Brock at the first <a href=\"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/2022\/05\/community-making-and-black-flourishing-through-the-scarborough-charter\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Inter-Institutional Forum of the Scarborough National Charter on Anti-Black Racism and Black Inclusion in Canadian Higher Education<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>PACHRED was formed in 2018 in response to the recommendations of the Human Rights Task Force.
