With the support of the Brock community, the Ontario Secondary School Teachers\u2019 Federation (OSSTF), which represents support staff from across the University, recently held a successful food drive<\/a> for Community Care of St. Catharines and Thorold.<\/p>\n

On Saturday, June 25, the OSSTF Food Drive collected 1,800 pounds of non-perishable food \u2014 valued at $5,778 based on the average cost of food per pound \u2014 as well as roughly $1,000 in monetary donations. As part of a separate campaign to raise enough money to help Community Care feed 100 families, the OSSTF also collected $2,650 in online donations.<\/p>\n

While the initiatives were successful, the work isn\u2019t over yet.<\/p>\n

Bins collecting non-perishable food items for Community Care will remain on campus until Sunday, July 17. Monetary donations can also be made online<\/a> until that time.<\/p>\n

The OSSTF is now working on a Give to Grow initiative with Small Scale Farms<\/a>.\u00a0The sustainable, collaborative fundraiser will see either $10 of fresh produce or $5 cash donated to Community Care each time a bag of produce is purchased from the local food hub.<\/p>\n
