Incoming first-year students have the chance to tap into a trove of Brock knowledge and get a head start on their university journey this summer.<\/p>\n
After two years of online programming due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Brock\u2019s Smart Start summer orientation program will resume in-person sessions in July, while also continuing to offer virtual alternatives.<\/p>\n
Beginning Tuesday, July 5 and running Tuesday through Saturday throughout the month, the four-hour orientation will feature presentations about information related to the University, such paying fees, getting involved and developing strategies for academic success.<\/p>\n
Teghan Hinksman, Brock\u2019s Recruitment Officer of Student Conversion and Transition, said the program\u2019s 17 student staff members have completed weeks of in-depth training to become experts on all things Brock.<\/p>\n
\u201cTheir experience, dedication and knowledge base makes them highly qualified to assist students through their transition to university,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
Following two years of virtual sessions, Hinksman said there is a buzz in the air that comes with welcoming new Brock Badgers in person.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s exciting to be back on campus this summer and see \u2014 face-to-face \u2014 how much of an impact our orientation program has on students\u2019 transition to Brock,\u201d she said. \u201cProviding these services creates a more dynamic experience for all and I\u2019m looking forward to welcoming our incoming class with this amazing team.\u201d<\/p>\n
In addition to orientation from 9 a.m. to 1 pm., Smart Start will offer optional afternoon drop-in sessions focused on residence tours and off-campus living, student schedule reviews and registration questions.<\/p>\n
Hinksman said the day also serves as a way to highlight some of the less tangible aspects of what makes Brock special.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s the perfect opportunity to understand what we always refer to as \u2018the Brock experience,\u2019\u201d she said. \u201cThere are so many things to see and do here, and Smart Start gives students that extra knowledge to get involved and make a difference.\u201d<\/p>\n
