Educators require the tools and knowledge to effectively teach students while instilling strong ethics and values of inclusion and diversity. In order to advance these important qualities, Brock\u2019s Faculty of Education (FOE) must lead by example and provide students a diverse and inclusive learning community.<\/p>\n
The Faculty recognizes that financial need is a barrier for many students looking to pursue post-secondary education. To support students from all social, cultural and racialized communities in joining one of Canada\u2019s leading faculties of education, the Faculty has launched a new fundraising initiative to establish additional financial support for FOE students. The initiative aims to raise $25,000, which will be matched by an anonymous donor, increasing the impact every dollar has on students.<\/p>\n
Building on Brock\u2019s strategic priorities, the initiative looks to foster a culture of inclusivity, accessibility, reconciliation and decolonization.<\/p>\n
Dean Michael Owen said the FOE\u2019s faculty, staff and alumni are asked to partner together and support the initiative for the benefit of future students and educators.<\/p>\n
\u201cIn Brock\u2019s Faculty of Education, we are lucky to teach and work alongside a community of educators who are driven to help people reach their full potential,\u201d he said. \u201cThis is the perfect opportunity for our community to step up and support students joining the Faculty, where they too can reach their full potential.\u201d<\/p>\n
Owen also noted that by creating additional award opportunities for entering students of diverse backgrounds, the Faculty will attract top students to its programs. By continuing to provide financial supports for students throughout their studies, students are more likely to worry less about financial stressors and feel more support to succeed in their studies at Brock.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are lucky to so often see the Brock community come together in support of many important initiatives on campus,\u201d said Sonia Dupte, Executive Director, Development and Campaigns. \u201cWith Dean Owen leading this initiative, there is no doubt that this too will be a major success.\u201d<\/p>\n
Dupte also shared that as Brock emerges from the pandemic, the University has seen a continued interest from donors in supporting student awards and ensuring a positive educational journey for students.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe look forward to seeing the community of supporters compromised of faculty, staff and alumni continue this trend by supporting our students along with the Faculty that has made a difference in their educational and professional journey,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
