As a result, some data suggest that\u00a098 per cent of Canadians\u00a0believe that recreation and parks are essential services.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>However, recent data also indicates\u00a0a decline in sport participation\u00a0over the past 20 years. In 2021, adults in Canada\u00a0received an F for sedentary behaviours\u00a0on the\u00a0Participaction Report Card, suggesting that participation in recreation and physical activities is also declining.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>There are a variety of reasons for why participation in sport and recreation is on the decline, including lack of opportunities, affordability and accessibility.
